Workshop 1 – 27 October
This workshop is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of geosteering principles and applications. Attendees will learn to integrate a variety of geosteering techniques including Model-Based, Stratigraphic-Based, Multi-Well and Multi-Log Correlation, Image Log Interpretation, and Vendor-Independent Resistivity Stochastic Inversion within advanced geosteering software.
Rómulo Cuevas Hernández is a Geological Engineer with over 10 years of experience in the Oil and gas industry, specializing in geosteering and well placement. He graduated from the University of Los Andes in Mérida, Venezuela, and has since built a robust career through positions at leading service companies such as Schlumberger and ROGII. Currently based in Europe, Rómulo is a Senior Geosteering Analyst for ROGII, supporting real-time well placement and analysis across conventional and unconventional reservoirs globally.
The workshop will be divided into three sessions. Abstracts or contributions are not required.
– Geosteering Fundamentals & Theory
– Applied Geosteering
– Executing Geosteering in RT Geosteering Simulator
The primary audience is CCS and Geothermal. Geosteering can help target the storage formations and ensure the well stays within the best injection zones, avoiding faults or thin layers that may compromise storage integrity. Also, the Well placement in geothermal energy helps in Well planning to maintain the well in high-permeability areas or close the closed system loop.
The participants should bring their laptops with a mouse.

Dariusz obtained his MSc at Wroclaw University in Poland in 2002.
After his PhD (2007) in geology, gas isotope geochemistry and microbiology at the Indiana University, Bloomington, he has worked in Subsurface Technology at ConocoPhillips for three years followed by one year of consulting (Dariusz BioGeoChem) working on petroleum systems and subsurface biomethane stimulation.
In 2012 he has joined SLB and since then has been developing interpretation workflowsand answer products for surface formation evaluation (mud gas and cuttings logging). Since couple of years his works involves H2 and helium logging and exploration, for which the global activity is rapidly growing.
This topic also brings ideas of stimulated natural H2 in the subsurface, which brings together geological and fluid geochemistry knowledge to a new level of collaboration among academic and industrial communities.
Dariusz is very active within the geochemistry community, with multiple peer-reviewed papers and chapters, numerous conference-related activities, journal editorships, and intellectual property publications.
