Dear esteemed colleagues and participants,

It is my honor to extend a warm welcome to all of you for the 5th EAGE Global Energy Transition Conference & Exhibition (GET2024), which will take place in the vibrant city of Rotterdam.

Rotterdam, renowned for its forward-thinking approach and commitment to sustainability, serves as an ideal backdrop for our discussions on the critical themes surrounding the global energy transition. As we gather, we will delve into the core topics that shape our industry’s future, not only within the Netherlands, but also across borders and continents.

Our chosen conference theme, “Accelerating the Path to a Sustainable Energy Future,” encapsulates the essence of our collective mission. It underscores the urgency of our actions and emphasizes the pivotal role played by the EAGE community in shaping societies worldwide. Together, we are architects of change, stewards of innovation, and guardians of the well-being of generations to come.

Allow me to highlight two fundamental imperatives:

  1. Balancing Short-Term Needs: Ensuring secure and affordable access to natural gas remains a cornerstone of a stable energy system. As we navigate this transition, we recognize the importance of maintaining reliability while simultaneously advancing toward a renewable-based energy.
  2. Mitigating Carbon Emissions: Our commitment extends beyond the present. We acknowledge that a carbon-neutral society is not a distant dream but an urgent necessity. The geoscientists and engineers among us play a pivotal role in this dual journey—navigating both the fossil fuel landscape and the carbon-free future.

In my capacity as a board member of EBN (Energy Beheer Nederland), I witness firsthand the cacophony of voices in the media—each claiming expertise, each advocating for a different path. I am convinced that our collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and commitment to sustainability will move us ahead.

GET2024 provides a unique platform to engage, interact, and exchange ideas. Let us connect, challenge assumptions, and lay the groundwork for a resilient future. Anticipate a robust Technical Program—one that bridges disciplines, integrates knowledge, and helps to set a direction toward global decarbonization.

As we gather in Rotterdam, I look forward to engaging in lively discussions that will influence the field of geosciences in our dynamic and constantly changing world. Together, we will address challenges, capitalize on opportunities, and collaboratively build a lasting and sustainable future.

A world as a better place for all is a mission that drives us to create a space where all professionals, geoscientists, and industry leaders can share their knowledge, accentuating the importance of sustainable energy sources and transitioning to low-carbon options.

As we strive to be a leading voice in this crucial transition from oil and gas to green energy solutions, we recognize that this would not be possible without our valued members. With their contributions, we will be connecting and sharing knowledge on key topics such as the use of innovative technologies, decarbonization, renewables, and energy efficiency in support of climate action. We will also emphasize the contributions of subsurface professionals and their essential role in shaping the future of energy.

Our program has been carefully curated with high-quality topics, speakers, and sessions highlighting multidisciplinary geoscience and engineering approaches. There will be an expanded programme with four sub-conferences covering Wind Energy, Hydrogen and Energy Storage, Geothermal Energy, and Carbon Capture & Storage – each providing insights into popular areas within the industry.

We aim to take this conference to the next level and make it a premier meeting space by expanding our program and incorporating strategic and regulatory sessions. Besides informing you about advancements in the field, we want to give industries an opportunity to reach a vibrant audience.

Bio: Saba Keynejad

Environmental Data Scientist Energy Transition and Environment at CGG
Co-chair Geothermal Energy Conference

Saba Keynejad received her Master’s degree in mineral exploration with a focus on geothermal exploration in 2012. She obtained her PhD from the University of Arizona in 2018, developing machine learning approaches for subsurface characterization. Since then, Saba has worked in the energy sector, contributing to projects in subsurface analysis and geothermal research. Currently, she applies her expertise to providing environmental solutions and advancing sustainable practices in energy, mining, and other major industries. Beyond technical work, Saba has been actively involved in leading conferences and webinars within her company and externally. She aims to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration through these events. Saba also participates in mentorship schemes focused on women of color in the energy and technology industry. As co-chair of EAGE GET2024, Saba brings a wealth of experience spanning academia, industry, and leadership. She looks forward to bringing together geothermal experts to drive the field forward through open dialogue and partnership. Saba is honored to help convene important discussions on the conference stage.

Bio: Gehrig Schultz

COO | Geoscience at EPI Group
Co-chair Geothermal Energy Conference

Dr. Gehrig Schultz has been actively involved in using geophysics to solve geological and engineering problems since 1986.  Dr. Schultz is currently COO for Geosciences at EPI Group where he leads a multidisciplinary team specialized in applying geophysics to geothermal energy, nuclear waste disposal, near surface engineering and hydrocarbons exploration and field redevelopment. He has worked both as a service provider and as a senior energy company executive.  His experience spans growing former Romanian state owned geophysical and geological enterprise to become a highly respected international geophysical supplier with annual revenues of over € 100 million, rejuvenating a producing hydrocarbons field, starting a cased whole logging and well maintenance company, and technical leadership of several startup companies. Gehrig recently earned a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Bucharest and graduated with a BS in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
